Please join the board of the South Carolina Unitarian Universalist Justice Alliance (SCUUJA) in welcoming the Rev. Nathan Woodliff-Stanley (he/him) as SCUUJA’s new Executive Director!
Rev. Nathan looks forward to building on the work begun by the Rev. Dr. Pippin Whitaker (now in ministry in Athens, GA) and the Rev. Dr. Jean Heriot (continuing as SCUUJA's Director of Training and Organizing), who co-founded SCUUJA last year. “I know how deeply Pippin will be missed in South Carolina,” said Nathan, “but I am very glad that Jean and I will be able to continue the justice work of SCUUJA together going forward, along with our board, partners, congregations, and individual supporters and activists across South Carolina.”
Nathan is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister who moved from Denver, CO to Charleston last year when his wife, Ruth Woodliff-Stanley, was elected Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina (one of two Episcopal dioceses in the state). He has a long history in social justice ministry and he is now a member of the Unitarian Church in Charleston.
“These are challenging times for our nation, for South Carolina, and for everyone impacted by oppression, exclusion, or loss of rights,” said Nathan. “That is all the more reason for us to pull together across congregations and partnerships for justice and education, which is what the South Carolina UU Justice Alliance is here to do."
